Summer is here and the anime news is heating up. We’ve got returning favorites and some new series are trying to find their legs, and a there's a delay just to keep things spicy. So let's get what is going on in July
First up:
My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 is finally here and I am excited for this one! Season 1 was honestly a great season with the character growth and animation coupled with a cute story it certainly primed me for season 2. And with 2 episodes out as of right now it’s already hitting that sweet spot again, if you loved how season 1 was and the vibe that it had then you are in for a treat as it is continuing with that same vibe and whats even better is that they didn’t waste any time easing back in, either.
Gachiakuta is finally out and it is one that I was waiting! The drawback? Episode 3’s getting bumped from July 20 to July 27 thanks to Japan's election coverage. Now, normally you’d expect delays a little later in the season and not right away but it does happen. And with Bones Film being the studio for this one I am sure that they will still deliver as they don’t usually miss.
So what's coming soon?
Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 – This one will be premiering July 19. And if you haven’t caught up this is your chance, there is a new compilation film called “Mission Recon” that includes a bonus episode but the compilation really cuts out a lot of the nitty gritty details that the full season gives you so it is still better to watch that. So basically a it's a good excuse to rewatch it and get yourself hyped for the monster mayhem. If you’re looking to hear our thoughts on Season 1, check out our episode right here
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 – A trailer dropped on July 4. Full season’s hitting January 2026 and it is one that I am excited for to say the least. And with Madhouse is back on it, Evan Call returning for the music and Tomoya Kitagawa directing. It’s already shaping up to be another amazing season. I will certainly need to watch season 1 again before the end of the year just to prepare.
One Punch Man Season 3 – October 2025 is locked in. Studio J.C. Staff is back from Season 2, and with how that one ended, this next arc’s looking heavy. Fingers crossed it keeps the momentum and with out the other season turned out and how the manga is I would be surprised if it did not keep the momentum. If you're not familiar with Season 1 or 2, you can check out our thoughts on them. Listen to our take on One Punch Man Season 1 and Season 2 right here.
Spy x Family Season 3 – Also dropping October 2025. More family chaos, more Loid cool guy missions, more Anya being Anya. And yeah, Yor’s still terrifying and perfect. This one’s a no brainer for us to watch especially with how the season and movie were it just makes me excited all the more for it. The character growth and development was solid with great animation season 3 can only get better. If you haven't seen them yet, you can hear our thoughts here: Season 1, Season 2, and the movie.
Behind the Mic:
On the latest podcast episode we just talked about Vexations of a Shut-in Vampire Princess. Next up: Akudama Drive (shoutout to Goose for the pick). It's slick, fast, and chaotic, so expect a fun ride.
We’re also working on a bonus episode for the live-action version of Kite. Not exactly thrilled about it, but we’re going in anyway. If nothing else, it’ll make for a good post-watch rant.
Rewatch Corner:
Been sliding back into Yu Yu Hakusho lately. Still lands. Sure, it’s got some pacing quirks, but that old-school charm and dark tournament stuff still hits. Planning to dive deeper on it soon, especially with the full run clocking over 100 episodes.
